(Frequently Asked Questions)
Will I have to tell you my whole life story and all of my deep dark secrets?
.
Nope! I will start with your current concerns and will learn more about you from there. The process is organic and always involves your consent. You don’t need to share anything you don’t want to share.
How frequent are sessions?
I like to start with weekly sessions but I’m flexible. Many clients move to biweekly at some point. This is something we will figure out together.
Will you diagnose me?
Diagnoses are not generally part of how I treat because I have a really broad definition of “normal” and don’t think diagnosis is always useful. If at some point we think that working with a diagnosis could be helpful to you, we will talk about it.
How long should I expect to be in therapy?
Some people come just for a few weeks or months to sort out a specific issue and some people choose to keep coming for years. Even if we “end” our relationship, you will always be able to come back for individual sessions or to restart our work.
Do you accept insurance?
I am not in-network with any insurance providers but I can provide you with a super bill to submit to your provider if your plan allows you to be reimbursed for out of network costs. Usually reimbursement is only possible after you have met a deductible but plans vary. This is something we should discuss in advance if you plan to seek reimbursement from your insurer.
What should I expect to gain from therapy?
Therapy is not a cure-all and is very dependent on your investment and your willingness to try new things in between sessions. The goal is to develop a new relationship with your problem so that it has less power and you have more agency and control in your own life.
